I am available for speaking engagements at schools, synagogues, churches, and civic centers.
Topics I most enjoy:
- The White Rose. Especially suited for high school and young adult settings, though appropriate for any age group. Very appropriate for German-Jewish dialog or interfaith gatherings.
- Historical revisionism. Using the White Rose story as a basis, learn how history can be (and has been) rewritten to suit personal or societal needs. And, when is historical revisionism a good thing? When the record is set straight. Discuss the bases for historical analysis.
- Creative writing. How to fire up your imagination.
- Issues of nonfiction novels or creative nonfiction. Prefers addressing honors high school students or college students, especially those involved in a serious project.
- Multi-culturalism and international education.* Ways to use community resources to interest students in the larger world we live in.
- Turn of the Century Democracy.** What was going on in Europe in general, Germany in particular, at the beginning of the 20th century? How did thinkers like Carl Muth, Ludwig Thoma, and Theodor Herzl arrive at such similar conclusions from divergent backgrounds?
- In addition, I am willing to speak to small, adult-only groups (or older high school and college students) on the powerfully emotional subject of Healing German-Jewish Relations. I refuse to lecture on the topic and require audience participation in serious dialog.
Unless otherwise requested, I prefer speaking for no longer than 45-50 minutes on any given topic. The Q&A sessions that follow tend to be lively. Don't be surprised if I am the one asking the questions!
Please email Joyce Light at Exclamation! Publishers for information about availability and fees. Please feel free to write me directly if you are interested in my speaking on a topic not listed above.
